

Thomas G. Patterson, age 59, of Kansas City, Missouri died August 1, 2011 at home lovingly surrounded by his wife and children. He faced his battle with pancreatic cancer with optimism and courage. Tom was born in Dunkirk, New York. He graduated with honors in civil engineering from Case Western University. Tom worked at Hallmark Cards for the past 32 years and most recently served as the Director of Corporate Facilities Management. His love of Kansas City led him to become involved in many community organizations. Some of his community activities include serving as president of Main Street Corridor Development Corporation (MainCor); serving on the board of directors of Penn Valley Park and Congregation Beth Torah. His father, Richard Patterson of Dunkirk, New York, precedes Tom in death. His mother, Mary Patterson of Dunkirk, New York, survives him. His loving wife of 31 years, Wynne Begun, his daughter Mallary Smith, son-in-law Charles Smith II, and son Michael Patterson, all of Kansas City, Missouri, survive Tom. His sister Marian Gale and brother-in-law Sidney Gale, of Sharpsburg, Maryland and his sister Liz Fleeter and brother-in-law David Fleeter of Solon, Ohio, also survive Tom. Funeral services will be Sunday, August 7, at 1:00 p.m. at Congregation Beth Torah at 6100 West 127th Street, Overland Park, Kansas. Graveside services will immediately follow at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Thomas G. Patterson Memorial Fund, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, California 90266. Tom loved life. He was a kind and gentle man. He adored his family and spending time sailing. He enjoyed listening to music, walking through the sculpture garden at the Nelson-Atkins Museum, and road trips with his wife.
