Thomas A. Sweeny

Thomas A. Sweeny, 83, of Kansas City, MO, died on May 25, 2011. The Visitation will be Friday, May 27, from 4-8 p.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Kansas City, MO; the Visitation will begin with a short prayer service. The funeral Mass will be Saturday, May 28 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, 4101 E. 105th Terrace, Kansas City, Missouri 64137. Tom was born in Tulsa, OK, and raised in Kansas City. He graduated from Rockhurst High School and College. He then served in the Navy before going on to Georgetown Law School. He was actively involved in the community and a well-respected lawyer. He received a variety of honors for his work as an attorney and his commitment to social justice. But he was most proud of his family. Tom is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia, nine children: Becky (John), Joe, Tom, Maggie (Pat), Dennis, Amy (Matt), Bob (Grace), Chris (Angela), and Tim (Emily), and 19 grandchildren: Sarah, Diana, Caroline, Teresa, Caitlin, Jack, Mattie, Zoe, Meg, Tommy, Andrew, Sophie, Claire, Paula, Mila, Emily, Lauren, Ellie, and Tess. He was a loving and devoted husband, dad, and grandpa who will be sorely missed by all those who had the privilege to know him.
