Velma was born on June 16, 1925 in Houlka, Mississippi to the union of Ona Bell and Ervin Hill where she attended school. Her parents, one brother Sandy, one sister Susie and three sons Charles, Steve and Matthew preceded her in death.
The sun set on her life Wednesday evening, August 8, 2018 at Research Medical Center.
At an early age, Velma accepted Christ into her life. As a young woman, she met and married Mose Perry in Houlka, Mississippi. To this union, five boys were raised. They lived in Mississippi until 1944. At that time they decided to move to Chicago, Illinois.
Velma was employed as a domestic worker, she cleaned furs at a cleaners and also as a supply technician at Illinois Research Hospital.
After the death of her Mose, Velma met and married Eugene Worlds of Chicago, Illinois in 1961. No children were born to this union.
In 1975, they moved to Kansas City, Missouri where they became members of Swope Parkway United Christian Church under the 50 year leadership of Eugene’s cousin Dr. K. David Cole.
Velma loved her Church and Church Family and faithfully attended regularly until her passing. Velma’s life was an example of true courage, faith and grace. She had a loving and caring spirit and what a “smile”. Most who knew her came to think of her as Sister Mother Worlds or simply a dear friend.
She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. Always helping wherever and whenever she was needed.
Velma leaves in the loving care of God her two sons Curtis (Betty) Perry of Chicago, Illinois, McArthur (Claire) Perry of Kansas City, Missouri, three sisters Mary (Frank) Burns of Calhoun City, Mississippi, Minnie Miller of Kansas City, Missouri, Jewell Jones and one brother Roma Smith of Kansas City, Missouri.
Velma affectionately call these her children and daughters, Gwen Perry of Chicago, Illinois, Erlene (Robert) Johnson, Dorothy Johnson, Versa Field, Mary Lou Kegler and Shirlee (Steven) Williams all of Kansas City, Missouri.
