He attended and graduated from school in Leslie, Arkansas. Shortly after, he enlisted with the United States Army and served honorably from February 1952 to November 1953 as a corporal in Korea.
Velorn then worked for Boeing in Witchita for 5+ years before becoming an over the road truck driver for 23 years, then, a diesel mechanic for 11 years. He retired in Ubana, Missouri to raise cattle. He also enjoyed fishing, playing his guitars and wood working.
He was preceded in death by his wife-Shirley Simmons, 1 daughter-Valorie Lee Simmons, 1 brother-Gayland Simmons, and 1sister-Anna Marie Johnson.
He is survived by 1 daughter-Carrie Moore and husband Dennis Moore of Freeman, Missouri, 1 son-Michael Simmons and wife Karen Senst of Peculiar, Missouri, 2 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
He was an active Member of Victory Temple/Cowboy Church, State Road U & 65 Hwy, Cross Timbers, Missouri and requested all donations be sent there in lieu of flowers.
