Venita Ramirez (Mom, "Grandma V") passed away peacefully on April 4, 2020 at NorthCare Hospice at the age of 95 years. Born on March 21, 1925 in Denver, Colorado she was raised in Hutchinson, Kansas and eventually moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she lived her whole adult life.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents Panfilo and Guadalupe Navarro, sister Lola Ramirez and brother Hipólito Navarro.
She is survived by two sisters Aquilina Vierya and Josephine Ortiz and brother Jesse Navarro (Connie).
Venita was wonderfully devoted to her 4 children Emma Garcia (Anthony), Elizabeth Rocha, Lola Rocha and Nick Rocha (Rosa).
She was a loving grandmother to 9 grandchildren Anthony Garcia, Jr. (Jessica), Tricia Nielsen (Peter), Arthur Tagle, Jr. (Kim), Venita Mustafa (Mazin), Nicholas Rocha, Jr., R. Patrick Contreras, Jessica Miller (Joseph), Nicole Bonacurso (Michael) and Vanessa Rocha.
She was a proud great-grandmother to 14 great-grandchildren Elizabeth Marie Jauhar (Zakaria), Chase Tagle, Zade Mustafa, Faris Mustafa, Anthony Garcia III, Ashleigh Garcia, Cody Tagle, Ibrahim Mustafa, Joseph Miller, Jackson Miller, Sophia Nielsen, Peter Nielsen, Jada Miller and Josephine Bonacurso.
She was also blessed with 4 great-great grandchildren Kaylee Tagle, Cory Tagle, Adam Jauhar and Rayan Jauhar.
Grandma V was busy, raising children, great grandchildren and always finding special ways to bless people. She was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. We will miss her everyday.
Whenever anyone asked her age, she always said “39,” and her vigor and enthusiasm for life shone through. Mom always “showed up," watching her children and grandchildren on the playing fields, in ball games, recitals, graduations and weddings. She enjoyed going to the movies, Saturday lunch outings, reading her daily subscription of the KC Star. Mom loved completing jig saw and crossword puzzles and never missed an opportunity to join in on senior yoga, bible study or bingo with her neighboring seniors.
Venita loved Johnny Carson, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and Keds shoes. She wasn’t dressed for the day until her earrings were in and her watch was on her wrist. She always wore her little brown purse that contained chewing gum, toothpicks and her nail file.
Mom’s signature home made (foil wrapped) burritos were some of the most sought after fares during hot summer days in Kansas City.
She always had a positive attitude, and when faced with personal challenges, she always responded with “I’m Good!” and sure enough she was!
Mom never let a good paper towel go to waste and never missed the evening news.
She had a sweet tooth, but always asked for a “sliver” of dessert…and never failed to eat the whole thing. She deserved it. Every bite.
