

Verness W. (Vern) Lierz, 83, of Gladstone, MO, passed away February 19, 2014 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Vern was born June 16, 1930 in Seneca, KS and lived in Kansas City after his time in the service. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the KCMO School District in 1992 after 35 years of service. Vern was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and spent many hours volunteering for them.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Bertha Lierz and siblings Victor, Lester, Cleta and Marceil.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marilyn, three daughters; Cindy Kitchen, Carol (Alec) Wood, Linda (Jim) Sheedy and son Randy (Jayanne) In addition, he is survived by brothers Elmer and Gerald and a sister Eileen Sudbeck, seven grandchildren; Allison and John Wood, Brandon, Kyle and Stacey Kitchen, and Anna and Ava Sheedy, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Vern loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and going hunting with family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 22 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1357 NE 42nd Terrace, Kansas City. Rosary will be at the church at 6:00 PM on Friday February 21 followed by a visitation from 6:30 – 8:00 PM. Burial Resurrection Cemetery.
