Viola was one of ten children. She was born January 29, 1920, in Lexington, MO, to Marie (Nienhueser) Steffens and Adolph Steffens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aurelius N. "Ray" Krause. They were married for 47 years and loved traveling, dancing in retirement, and were both very involved in their church, St. Paul's Lutheran in Independence, MO. She made many quilts, especially for each of her grandchildren. She worked at Truman High School in the cafeteria for six years and at McDonald's for two years.
Viola was also preceded in death by her parents, nine siblings, granddaughter, Jennifer (Smith) Carr, two sons-in-law, Robert Dwyer and Charles (Nick) Smith, Jr.
Viola is survived by her children, Patricia Ann Dwyer, Betty Lou Connett (David), Diana Lynn Smith, Terry Ray Krause; she leaves five grandchildren, Carl Connett, Jeffery Smith (Dana), Leanna Dwyer (Justin Brogden), Kasandra Smith (Mike), Abby Krause; seven great-grandchildren: Jacob, Joseph, Susanna, and Rebecca Connett, Chyenne Dwyer, Sierra and Robert Schwartz; and two great-great-grandchildren, Isabella Templeton and Mina Smith.
Visitation is Monday, August 26 at 9:30 am until funeral service at 10:30 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church 17200 East 39th St. S, Independence, MO 64055. Committal service immediately following at D. W. Newcomer's Floral Hills Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in in Viola's name to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
