Our precious Vivian Lee Taylor Selden joined her sweetheart Lee G. Selden on May 5th, 2012. Vivian was born to A.D. and Maurine Lawrence on September 12, 1936 in Alton, Missouri, Oregon County, in the Ozarks. She attended Gashland Elementary School, graduated NKC High School early at the age of 17 and entered into her 30 year career as an artist for Hallmark, illustrating greeting cards, publications, and character lines. Vivian exhibited and sold paintings at The Plaza Art Fair in the early 60’s. She illustrated for Gibson’s Cards and had a personal section in a locally published KC children’s magazine called Wee Wisdom, in which she often featured landmarks such as the Plaza, The Dime store, located in historic Brookside, and the classic Kansas City Skyline. Vivian was a well known antique trader participating in various local antique shows and upheld a passion and loyalty to Kansas City’s treasured local artists, photographers, collectors and musicians. She was a charter member and previous President of the Kansas City Depression Glass Club. Vivian and her late husband have maintained booths at the Waldo Flea Market since 1981. Vivian not only touched our lives, but the true honor was following in her footsteps, tracing her history, and learning her legends. This is the treasure to all those she has touched and fascinated from the beginning and back again. Vivian was most excited when finding a treasure to soon pass on to someone special. Vivian is survived by all of her beloved siblings Daniel (Sharon) and Tommy (Debbie) and sisters Jean Bye (Kurt) and Susie Matney (Bob); sons Guiou Taylor (Rene) and Robin Taylor (Allison); step-children Laurie Campbell(Kendyll) and Gary Selden: and her darling grandchildren Lee Ann Boncosky (Joshua), Jaime, Guiou, Michael, Katie Taylor, Amanda, Nicole, Brandon and Katie; Great-Grandchildren Landon Taylor Cummings, Logan and Ryver Galloway; many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Vivian will also be greatly missed by her extended family at the Waldo Flea Market. Services will be held at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home located at 10507 Holmes Road in Kansas City, Missouri. A visitation will be on Wednesday, May 9, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The service will be held on Thursday, May 10, at 11:00 a.m. with graveside immediately following in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society or the Obama Re-Election campaign. Condolences may be offered at www.mtmoriah-freeman.com.
