Wanda ‘Elaine’ Wilson, 95, of Blue Springs, MO passed away peacefully on Thursday morning May 8, 2025. The family will receive friends on Wednesday May 14 at (Newcomer’s) Floral Hills, Kansas City, MO from 9:00-11:00 am with a celebration of life service to immediately follow.
Elaine was born on February 28, 1930, in Lowry City, Missouri to Estin Napoleon Snyder and Edna M. (Murray) Synder. Elaine graduated from Northeast High School in 1948. She went to work at Montgomery Wards where she fell in love with an order-collector roller skater by the name of Glenn Wilson. Elaine and Glenn were married November 17, 1948. They moved several times throughout their marriage – Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Illinois, and finally settled in Kansas City. Elaine and Glenn were long-time members of Pleasant Grove Bible Church in Kansas City.
Elaine was easy to love and freely gave her love and talents to others. She had a servant heart and lived out her faith. She intentionally invested so much in her children, daughter-in-law’s, son-in-law, grandkids, great grandkids as well as so many others. For many years, Elaine enjoyed bowling where she served as the league official providing the weekly statistics…before calculators and computers. She volunteered weekly for over ten years at the Independence Sanitarium hospital. Elaine loved being an active classroom parent for all her children. She baked hundreds of cookies over the years for vacation bible school and Boy Scout camp.
Elaine always enjoyed sewing, quilting, and machine embroidery projects. She especially loved sharing her cross and angel ornaments as well as bookmarks with family and friends. Elaine made baby quilts for all the new babies in the family and donated many baby and lap quilts to Project Linus.
Elaine’s happy place was at home sewing or in the kitchen making cookies available for anyone who came to visit. If you popped in for a visit with Elaine, you would find her sewing in the basement while listening to the Gather Brothers, resting on the couch watching Dr. David Jerimiah or Charles Stanley, or if the Royals were playing the game would be on the TV.
Elaine loved her family fiercely and was looking forward to reuniting with her husband and meeting her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Elaine and Glenn were married 74 years, just missing their 75th anniversary by a few months. Elaine had 5 children, Linda Louise, Douglas Alan, James Reed, Kenneth Dale and Dianne Elaine. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Estin and Enda Snyder, sisters Mary Anne Lawrence, Ruth Reed, and her beautiful infant children Linda and James, and her great granddaughter Abigail Wilson. Elaine leaves behind her son Doug Wilson and wife Susan (Crow) Wilson, Ken Wilson and wife Joi (Maddox) Wilson, Dianne (Wilson) Driver and husband Derrell Driver, 7 amazing grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
