Wanda Lee Jett-Cornell was called home to Heaven on Wednesday, July 7th, 2021. Wanda was born on March 28, 1939 in East St. Louis, IL, to Oval Ray Webber and Gladys Davis and lived there until she moved away from the area. Later marrying Warren Jett, together they raised their children in several Missouri communities. Preceding her in death is her previous husband Warren Jett, her son Brian Jett, and her siblings Ray Webber, Michael Webber, Wilma “Louise” Wegrzyn-Stillman and Betty Kennedy.
In 2018, Wanda married Al Cornell, who survives the home. When they met, it was obvious they would laugh, play cards and travel as much as possible. Visiting with the family was always important to her and together, they would meet with family as often as possible to spend time together. Whether or not they were planned in advance, some of the most fun times were spur of the moment when the family got together so quickly and great food ensued.
In addition to her husband, Wanda leaves behind her children, daughter Joyce; son Kenny and his wife Pam; son James and his wife Christina; son David and his wife Susan; son Dennis and his wife Susan; son Kevin and his wife Sandy; and her beloved 18 grandchildren who she watched grow, marry and start their families; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Wanda loved life. She was able to navigate the good, the ups, the downs and even the bad. Her faith in Jesus Christ was her rock and she never hesitated to lift others in prayer---whether celebrating and thanking Jesus for his abundant blessings, or, prayers for healing to those who were ill. She loved leading her bible study while teaching God’s word every Sunday and lately, attending church when she could.
Wanda also loved travel and adventure. Whether it was travelling with her children, Al, or, logging many windshield miles with her sister at heart, Norma Jean, she covered a lot of miles between home and Branson, St. Louis, Springfield, Nashville, TN, Charleston, SC, Florida and all places in between. Wanda and Norma Jean would talk, pray, eat all of the unhealthy food possible and most of all, they laughed. Wanda had many friends that were both near and far whom she loved to visit. Whether it was at the club house, at Jessica Estates, or, with extended friends outside of the area, she was always up for playing games, sharing good food, and enjoying much laughter.
Wanda’s sudden passing leaves a hole in our hearts, and we will greatly miss her, but she has left an indelible imprint that family matters, and we should spend time together as much as we can. Laughter is the best medicine, don’t cheat when you play cards or dominoes, and eat all of the Horns if you can.
We are certain on Wednesday she heard the words she wanted to hear, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
