

Wayne Lee Berry, 77, passed away on June 5, 2012 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born the only child of Carl and Lucille Berry on June 24, 1934 in Opolis, Kansas. After attending five one-room schools in southern Missouri, playing with one drumstick in the band and sharing cold gravy with his dog, he graduated from Carl Junction High School in 1952. He worked a variety of jobs early in his career including Kansas Exploration Mining-Snapp Mine and The Community Dairy in Joplin, Missouri. He then moved to Western Electric where he worked for 22 years before transferring to Southwestern Bell where he retired from a job he loved as Area Manager with a total of 36 years and 23 days of service. The best husband, dad, son, uncle, grandpa and friend a person could have ever been is survived by his wife of 59 years Peggy Shuey Berry; daughter Christy Lynn Chapman, Kansas City, Missouri; son Brian Wayne Berry of New York City, New York; and grandchildren Cari Vitale and husband Brian, Caitlyn Chapman and fiancé Zac Bradley, Cassi Chapman and Ceanna Chapman of Kansas City, Missouri; and great-grandchildren Jaiden and Jenica Vitale and Riley, Lily and Rowan Bradley. He is also survived by special friends including Ward Wheeler, Lisa Okazaki, Pio Schunker and DannyEarl Woodson. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, June 8, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at the Carl Junction Cemetery in Carl Junction, Missouri. The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Staley High School Marching Band, UMKC Department of Music Therapy, and Children’s Mercy Hospital Walk-In Clinics.
