Wesley C. Smith, a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away April 8, 2011 at the age of 93. Wes was a graduate of Paseo High School, where he excelled as one of the school’s all-time top athletes in both football and track & field. Wes was a veteran of World War II, serving first the Horse Calvary at Ft. Riley Camp Funston. He went on to earn the rank of Staff Sergeant in the enlisted Army, followed by a stint in the Army Air Corps, where he was stationed in the Pacific. Wes was a V.P. of Sales for Viking Refrigeration, Divisional Sales Mgr. for Hill Refrigeration and founded Wes Smith & Assoc., manufacturer’s representatives in 1968. Wes is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia M. Smith; his children Clay Smith of Los Angeles, California, Gigi Smith-Dickson of Overland Park, Kansas and Scott W. Smith of Kansas City, Missouri; his grandchildren John and Scott Dickson of Overland Park, Kansas; and his brother Robert L. Smith of Kansas City, Missouri. No memorial service is planned.
