William “Bill” Howard Bliss, age 87 of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away Tuesday October 29, 2019 at Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, MO. He left this earthly home to music being played and sung for him and entered his heavenly home to sing God’s praises for eternity. He was born on April 19, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri the son of Jess Albert and Marguerite (Green) Bliss. Bill grew up in Rosedale, Kansas. He graduated high school in California and moved back to the area after serving in the United States Marine Corp in the Korean Conflict, where he attained the rank of Sergeant. He met the love of his life, Pat Irons at Monroe Avenue Baptist Church and they married on October 7, 1955 in Kansas City, MO. After surrendering his life to music ministry, he graduated from William Jewell College in 1970. He was the worship leader at Sterling Acres Baptist Church for 4 years, followed by 18 years of dedicated service to Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Bill is survived by his wife: Pat of 64 years, daughter: Brenda Yeates (Thom), two sons: Rob Bliss (Darla) and Brian Bliss (Susan), seven grandchildren: Ben, Sarah, Kyle, Kallyn, Bekah, Paige and Tyler, and five great-grandchildren: Davis, Anderson, Fynnlie, Brynlee and Brooklyn.

This picture of Uncle Bill so accurately portrays his kind and gentle spirit (with a glint of laughter lurking there!). I remember the jokes, laughter and teasing that were always present whenever we gathered for holidays – he was so funny and upbeat! I’m very sorry for your loss and sending many thoughts and prayers for comfort and healing and that you will be filled with peace.

Mr. Bill had a way of making one feel special, by his earnest effort to greet each one in our family by his or her name. He reflected the sweet love of our LORD Jesus with his warm exuberance and sincere friendship. We are thankful to have known Mr. Bill, we know he is with God, and he will certainly be missed!

Earthly hearts are breaking but Heaven is rejoicing (and laughing) now that Bill has arrived! We've known Bill for over 20 years and have not known anyone more humble, humorous and heartwarming than this gentleman. Bill was always eager to get a laugh at his own expense and he never failed to bring a smile to our faces. He and Pat have been wonderful friends and we mourn the loss of Bill. God's Blessings to the Bliss Family. Bill is missed already.

Bill was the Happiest, Sweetest, Fun Loving, Gentlest Soul, I have ever known. When I first met Bill in the mid to late 1990’s, his outgoing and welcoming personality reminded me immediately of my Paternal Grandpa that I lost at age 5. Our loss of this Wonderful Godly man, is Heavens Gain for sure. I know he is one again singing and directing the choir for the Glory of God. I will miss him. My deepest and sincerest sympathies to you Pat and your wonderful family. Prayers for comfort and peace for you all in the coming days.

So many wonderful memories! When Tyler heard of Bill's passing his comment was 'He will always be my image of a worship leader!' and we have to agree. His energy and willingness to teach in his gentle humorous way touched so many. His absolute delight over his DingDong birthday cake still makes me smile! We loved being part of the Christmas Cantata programs over the years. Pat & Bill's family is a tribute to them both. Hugs and prayers from the O'Donnells!

When I saw Bills picture on this obituary I wept. Bill stole my heart when my husband and I first met him. Kind, fun loving and full of the love of Christ. Bill was a musician like my Daniel and Bill always wanted to join in with him to play the drums. Daniel and Bill would always have a few moments of “drum talk”. Always such a fun loving person.
Rest In Peace our dear friend Bill.
