Col. (Retired) William David Conklin, 95, Prairie Village, KS, passed away November 7, 2015. Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 14, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope House or to charity of your choice.
Bill was born May 25, 1920 in Bridgeport, CT, son of David and Elizabeth (Wheway) Conklin. He served 26 years in the US Air Force, retiring in 1968 as Wing Commander at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, OK. During those 26 years Bill went from a Major to a Full Colonel in three years. He had served as Air Attache in Greece, Air Force Budget Manager to the Pentagon and was a graduate of Harvard Business School. He was President of the 450th Bomb Group Association. Bill was also the Assistant Superintendent for the KC School District.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn Conklin in 1971. Bill is survived by his wife, Rowena Trevor Conklin; children by his first wife, Douglas Conklin, Lee’s Summit, MO, Pam Harms (Harvey), North Platte, NE and Steven Conklin (Bong), Kansas City, MO; stepchildren Tracy Reed (Chris) and Alison Trevor; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.
