

William (Bill) M. Day born July 26, 1920 in Taycheedah, Wisconsin, died September 24, 2012 in Kansas City, Missouri. Bill moved with his parents at an early age to Fort Dodge, IA, where he met his future wife in elementary school. Graduating from high school in 1939 he became part of the greatest generation and served in the U S Army Signal Corps, establishing the Saipan beachead in World War II. Post war, he completed a degree at the University of Iowa, married Betty Lou (Jill) Howick and was commissioned into the U S Air Force. Recalled to active duty during the Korean War, he proudly served a total of 27 years in the U.S. Armed Services while stationed in Germany, South Dakota, Nebraska, California and Missouri. Following service in the Vietnam War he retired in 1969 with the rank of Major. He then joined the staff of the Jackson County Circuit Court and finally worked for the Missouri Department of Credit Unions until a second retirement in 1985. Throughout his life he enjoyed meeting new friends and trying new things. In retirement he enjoyed traveling, military reunions, fishing, garage sales and indulging in varied interests such as archeology, stamp collecting, gardening, gem collecting and relaxing at a Lake of the Ozarks home. He is survived by Jill, his loving wife of 66 years, son Bruce (Nancy), grandsons Wes, Spencer and Reid and great grandson Aidan. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 29, at Red Bridge United Methodist Church.
