

William Wesley "Wes" Emerson, age 73, was born April 7, 1942 in Kansas City, MO to Dwight and Mary Alice Emerson. He went to join his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 30, 2015. Services will be held at Colonial Presbyterian Church, 9500 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, MO on September 12 at 3:00 PM with a reception immediately following.
Wes was the oldest of four children and spent his youth in the Philippines, where his father was stationed, and eventually moved to Ava, MO. He graduated from Ava High School in 1960 and received his accounting degree from UMKC in 1967. Following graduation, he joined Peat Marwick and obtained his CPA. Wes was the CFO of several natural resource companies and in 1988 started working with AZOMITE Mineral Products (AMP) as the CEO and Chairman of the Board. Wes and his team developed AMP into an international business. Over the years, he enjoyed the challenges and the people that helped grow the AMP business.
In 1976, he married Joyce, and became dad to her three children. Wes said the highlight of his life was being married to Joyce and raising three children. He had a variety of interests and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. Many special times were spent with family and friends on the family farm in Ava at the “Roundhouse” as well as family trips to the mountains, beaches and Christmas getaways. Wes especially enjoyed following his grandchildren and their activities.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; son, Jeff Long and his wife Allison of Lawrence, KS and their children, Katherine Faulkner (Derek) of Kansas City, MO and Jackson Long of Lawrence, KS; son, Scott Emerson and his wife Michelle of Leawood, KS and their children, Matt, Grace and Jonathan; and daughter, Jody Adams and her husband Chris of Rockwall, TX and their children Hannah and Paden. In addition, he leaves his brothers, Marvin and David Emerson, and his sister, Nancy Perryman, and their families.
Memorials in Wes’s memory may be made to Colonial Presbyterian Church, 9500 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, MO 64114, for the Kenya Project or to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care, 1500 Meadow Lake Pkwy, Suite 200, Kansas City, MO 64114.
