He was born on September 5, 1935 in Dunn, North Carolina to his parents, Lonnie and Lessie Jackson. He moved to Kansas City when he made the decision to find a better place to live away from the moonshiners and tobacco fields. He joined Earl and Ann Jackson, his brother and sister-in-law, in the Midwest.
Through his friendship with Bill Jesse, now his brother-in-law, Bill Jackson met the love of his life, Janice Eileen Jackson, on a blind date. Bill and Jan married in 1959 and started their family of three - Sandy, Mark, and Nancy (the favorite). Bill worked hard to provide for his family and instilled a discipline of respect, “reuse and recycle” and development of skills that allowed one to be self-sufficient and appreciate the craft of the trade.
He loved restoring cars, supporting Mark in Boy Scouts, taking his family on annual vacations, and cheering on his children in all life activities. Bill spent the majority of his career as an Operating Engineer, winning recognition and awards for being known as the “Give it to Bill, he can fix anything” employee.
Both Bill and Jan retired at the age of 55 so that they could spend more time travelling, more time with family and simply time to just enjoy life. Their fulfilled life was focused on family, friends, and blessings.
Bill was predeceased by Lindsey Morris-Elwood, granddaughter, sisters Edna Hudson and Lois Johnston, brothers Fred Jackson, Julius Jackson, Carson Hudson, and Earl Jackson.
Bill is survived by his spouse, Jan, his children, Sandy Morris and husband, Bob, Mark Jackson and wife, JoAnn, Nancy Jenkins and husband Mike along with seven grandchildren - Todd Morris, Hannah VanDeusen, Megan Alberg, Erin Johnson, Brett Jackson, Cole Jenkins and Kelsie Jenkins. The grandchildren blessed Bill and Jan with 10 great-grandchildren.
The Jackson family will be holding a service at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO on August 24, 2022. Visitation at 10:00am with the service starting at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Head for the Cure or Hospice.
