

William (Bill) S. Morris Jr., 87, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Friday, January 3, 2025, at home surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 10th, 1:00 p.m., at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 9th, at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., where the Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 8745 James A. Reed Road, Kansas City, MO 64138 or Children’s Mercy Hospital, 2401 Gillham Road, Kansas City, MO 64108.
Bill was born September 3, 1937, in Kansas City, Missouri to William and Catherine Morris. He was one of three children. He graduated from Redemptorist Catholic School. He married the love of his life, Mary “Nancy” Sweeney, on July 15, 1961 and enjoyed 63 years of marriage. Bill was a lifelong salesman of corrugated packaging. He and Nancy spent many years enjoying the Lake of the Ozarks and Marco Island, Florida with family and friends. These were his happy places. Playing basketball and watching the Chiefs and Royals were some of his favorite pastimes. He was always happiest with a cold beer in hand, seated on a barstool, surrounded by family and friends telling stories and jokes and listening to great music. He will be remembered as Dad or Pops to some, Sonny, Lump or Tree to others but most importantly as a loving, fun and loyal husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Bill was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Salmon and Mary Ellen McCord. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Morris; son Sloan (Laura) Morris; daughter Tanya (Mark) Hoffmeister; grandchildren, Holly (Joe) Sherman, Mallory (Austin) Preis, Tyler “T.J.” Hoffmeister, Megan Morris, Karlie Hoffmeister and Michael Morris; and three great-granddaughters, Charlotte and Lydia Sherman and Hailey Preis.
Bill was a tremendous influence in many people’s lives. He lived a long, wonderful life filled with faith, family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He was truly a legend.
