Billy Miller, 87, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away February 2, 2013. Visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m., with Rosary at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, February 7 with funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 8 at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Bill was born July 26, 1925 to Roy F. Miller and Ruth (Evans) Miller in Heavener, Oklahoma. Early in his childhood, Bill returned with his mother to Kansas City, where he lived throughout his entire life. Early on, Bill developed a strong, life-long passion for tennis. He actively played from 1935 to 1998. In 1938, Bill had the honor of serving as Ball Boy for the Mexico-Australian Davis Cup at the old Rockhill Tennis Club where he saw some of the greatest players of that era: Budge, Kramer, Riggs and Parker, to name a few. Bill won his first tournament in 1939, and would go on to win over 135 tournaments throughout his career. Bill later joined the Navy in September of 1943, where he served with the 5th Marine Division during World War II as a Navy Corpsman. He saw combat in February of 1945, where he was wounded in action. Bill was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in November of 1945. Bill was a huge fan of the University of Missouri, where he received his BS in business. He would go on to work in sales and eventually open his own sales company, WMS Miller & Co. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Mildred A. Miller and Frances Morton. He is survived by his loving wife Bette Miller, son Chris Miller, daughter Julie Miller, two nephews, Rick (Kathy) Morton and Jimmy Morton.
