After graduating from North Kansas City High School, Bill married his first wife and to that union they gave birth to the “apple of Bill’s eye”, his daughter Gerri. Bill joined the Army where he was a Private First Class until his discharge in 1964.
Bill studied to become an electrician and worked at General Motors Fairfax for over 33 years, retiring in 2008. It was while he was working at GM that he met his best friend and the love of his life, Rose, who he affectionately called “my sweet Rose” and she called him “Honey”.
Bill passed peacefully Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rose, both his parents, and two stepsons Eric and Virgil Davis.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his daughter Gerri Spurgeon (Kansas City); granddaughter Felicite Nicole Spurgeon (Kansas City); stepson Andre Davis (Missouri); sister Theresa Pendergist (Independence, MO); a special nephew Jeff Guthrie (Oklahoma); four sisters-in-law, five brothers in-law and a host of relatives and friends. Bill also had a very special sister-in-law, Lorene (Nate) Harmon, who took loving care of him after the passing of his wife until he departed his earthly life.
A visitation for Bill will be held Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. A celebration of Life Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 PM. A Committal Service will follow in Forest Hill Calvary Cemetery, 6901 Troost, Kansas City, Missouri 64131.
