Born on December 28, 1951, in Lake Village, Arkansas, Willie was the beloved son of Andrew and Azalee Bell. At nine years old, Willie moved with his family to Kansas City, Missouri, the city where he was raised, built his life, and remained until his homegoing.
Willie graduated from Central High School in 1970. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, answering the call of duty during the Vietnam War. He served two years on active duty and was stationed in Germany before returning home with honor.
Upon returning to Kansas City, Willie began a long, fulfilling career with the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA). For 38 years, he served his community faithfully on the road before earning a well-deserved retirement.
Beyond his career, the KCATA held a truly special place in Willie’s heart: it is where he met the love of his life. In 1980, while driving his regular bus route, Willie met Shelley Rynae. Their courtship blossomed into a lifetime of partnership, and they were united in holy matrimony on February 19, 1983. Together, Willie and Shelley shared 43 years of marriage. Through life’s highest moments and hardest trials, their bond remained unbroken as they tenderly cared for one another, demonstrating a true model of enduring love.
For over 20 years, Willie was a faithful member of Concord Fortress of Hope Church. He served his church community as an active member of the Parking Lot Security Ministry and the Pastor’s Pickup Ministry.
Outside of work and church, Willie was an avid bowler for over 40 years, competing with passion and winning numerous awards along the way. He also enjoyed golfing, relaxing while watching Westerns, and, above all else, cherishing quality time spent with his family.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Azalee Bell; his brother, James E. Bell; and his son, Stephan A. Bradley.
He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his legacy his loving wife, Shelley R. Bell; his sons, Kevin D. Bradley and Julian D. Bell; his daughter, Melina S. Alford (Charles); his brothers, Arthur R. Bell and Carl L. Bell; and his sister, Chessie L. Hammons. Willie’s love and guidance will also be carried on by his 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family members and dear friends.
