

Winton D. Jensen died January 2, 2017. He was 95. Winton was born March 3, 1921 in Bennet, Neb. to Clarence F. Jensen and Bertha (Terpsma) Jensen. He met Mary K. Parkinson in Wichita, Kan., and they married December 24, 1942. The couple later moved to the Kansas City area and resided in Leawood for more than 50 years.
A graduate of Finlay Engineering College, Winton founded Jensen Engineering in 1951 in Kansas City, Mo. He served as president for more than 30 years. He also served as chairman of the local chapters of the American Society of Tool and Manufacturing Engineers and the American Society of Plastic Engineers.
Winton was active in his community, having served on Leawood City Planning Commission, Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Board, Kansas City Blue Cross Blue Shield Board. He also served on the Mechanical Engineering & Technology Committee of Pittsburg State University. Winton was a long time member of the Leawood Lions and achieved the International Award.
Along with his wife, Winton enjoyed flying in their Cessna. He was an active member of the Kansas Pilots Association and U.S. Pilots Association. He held officer positions in Kansas Pilots Association and also received a Founders Award from the organization. In addition to flying, the couple enjoyed dancing. They belonged to several dance clubs, including Leawoodites, Stardusters, and the Four Seasons.
Winton is survived by his wife, Mary K. Jensen, son Bill Jensen (Barb), daughter Cynthia Claus (Bob), daughter Winona Gibbs (Don), six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three nephews, a niece, and their families. His parents and his brother, F. Merle Jensen, preceded him in death.
