Zita Merle Schump
April 12, 1920 – November 29, 2020
Zita M. Schump died November 29, 2020 at the age of 100. The family plans a private service followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Kansas City.
Zita was born April 12, 1920, in East St. Louis, Illinois. She moved to Kansas City in 1936 and married Frank, the love of her life, in 1940. Together, they enjoyed seventy-four years of happiness and raised four children.
Zita was preceded in death by her husband Frank and their son Steven. She is survived by her children: Ron (Venda), Bob (Sue), and Julie Bagby (Rick); and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was one of the strongest, sweetest women and I have been blessed to know and call my grandma. I remember spending many holidays and visiting her and grandpa. The countless appliqué dresses she made for my sisters and I were made with so much love. She loved us all with her whole heart 100% of the time. I hope you knew just how much I love you, grandma. You’ve lived life to the fullest. ❤️

Zita baby-sat my sister and me when we were preschoolers, and the Schumps became our second family. I think Zita must have been very understanding of children. I don’t recall that she ever sent me home when I showed up (uninvited) at supper, just in time for dessert; I don’t recall her spanking without good cause; I don’t even remember her raising her voice. Even as a teenager I always felt I could be myself with Zita. In recent years I enjoyed talking with her about the old neighborhood; her memory was sharp right up to the end. I am so glad to have known Zita, and my condolences go to all the Schump family.
