Alice Marie Lynch, 81, passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving night, November 27, 2014, in Missouri City, Texas – a fitting end to a life that blessed so many people.
Alice was born in Lexington, TX on October 6, 1933, the eldest child of the late Joe and Antonia Matejcek. She grew up on her family’s farm speaking Czech, milking cows, and picking cotton. At age 18 she graduated from Lexington High School, and quickly moved to Houston. At the encouragement of her former Home Ec teacher, Alice enrolled in Jeff Davis Nursing School in 1952. While a student she met her future husband, William “Bill” Lynch, through a mutual friend. Six months later they married on June 12, 1954 in Houston. She graduated as a registered nurse in 1955 and worked for two years at Jeff Davis Hospital. Then after transferring to the new Ben Taub Hospital she and Bill started a family. Stephen was born in 1957, Ronald came next in 1959, and finally Daniel arrived in 1966. For 38 years Alice worked at Ben Taub, gradually becoming the supervisor of two floors of outpatient clinics. She retired in 1993 after a lifetime of serving others. A year later she and Bill built their retirement home in Richmond, TX. Soon after moving to the Richmond area, they transferred their church membership from Salem Lutheran in Houston to Joy Lutheran Church where Alice became a very active volunteer. Also, on a weekly basis, she distributed food to the needy at Helping Hands, a local Christian food pantry. Throughout her life Alice loved to sew, paint, and do arts and crafts. She was always a kind, charitable, hard-working person; and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Alice is survived by her loyal husband, Bill; her three cherished sons and their wives, Stephen (Jan), Ronald, and Daniel (Corrie) Lynch; and her four beloved grandchildren, Audry (Austin) Skidmore, Noah, Victoria, and Kevin Lynch.
She also leaves behind two sisters, Julia Spitzenberger of Lexington, TX, and Betty (Emil) Pampell of Richmond, TX; three brothers, Joe (Mary) Matejcek of Gonzales, TX, Robert (Terry) Matejcek of Giddings, TX, and William (Emma) Matejcek of Giddings, TX; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 8:30 pm on Tuesday, December 2nd in the chapel of Katy Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 3rd at Joy Lutheran Church, 717 FM 359 in Richmond, Texas. Burial will follow at Morton Cemetery.
