Alma M. Beatty was welcomed to her eternal home on Thursday, June 13th, 2024 with family by her side. She was born the sole survivor of a twin birth in Conroe, TX on August 5, 1930 to Gordon Lee Montomery and Ethel Foster Montgomery.
Although she had no siblings, her mother was one of 10 children; therefore Alma grew up with many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. She was raised in Vidor, TX and graduated Valedictorian of French High School in Beaumont, TX in 1948. After graduation she continued her education at Lamar College in Beaumont where she studied English and Music. She used her gift as a pianist to serve the Lord through the church in many capacities.
In 1950 she married her high school sweetheart, Charles Suitt, and later started her family. She was a devoted homemaker and mother, while continuing to serve. She was a loyal daughter to her parents, and after the loss of her mother, she worked tirelessly to raise three girls and care for her father. She also was a piano teacher and taught private lessons in her home. The family relocated to the Westbury area of southwest Houston in 1962, where she resided for 53 years. She became and remained a faithful member of Willow Meadows Baptist Church, using her talent by serving in music ministry.
It later became necessary for her to seek employment outside the home, and she worked as a Data Systems Operator at Memorial Hospital of Houston.
Her love for organization and aptitude for numbers furthered her career, where she was a bookkeeper at Frazer Bilt. In addition she assisted elderly individuals with personal finances.
She enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking and was a meticulous housekeeper. She was wise and frugal, always clipping coupons and shopping sales.
She found the love of her life, William (Bill) Beatty, at church in the adult singles group and remarried in 1973, expanding the family. They spent many happy years, enjoying watermelon and Blue Bell ice cream together until his passing in 2014.
When her home was destroyed by Hurricane Harvey, a dedicated and brave caregiver assisted in her rescue by wading through dangerous flood waters to get her to safety. Alma then relocated to Carriage Inn of Katy, TX.
Her love for music and playing piano was evident throughout her life. She enjoyed playing in nursing homes, and continued to play piano entertaining others after she became a resident of the retirement home herself.
She was cared for and doted on by family, neighbors and many loving caregivers, both in her home and especially in her last seven years spent at Carriage Inn.
Alma was preceded in death by her twin sister who died at birth, her parents, her husband of 41 years, Bill Beatty, and stepchildren, Bill Beatty Jr and Sandy Bingham.
She is survived by three daughters, Sandi Cowman of Kingsland (Randy), Rhonda Rawlings of Sugar Land (deceased husband Rick), Charla Lindsey of Katy (deceased husband Kent) and one stepson, Doug Beatty Sr (Iris). Alma leaves behind 11 grandchildren (James Johnson, Juli Smith, Ryan Rawlings, Rustin Rawlings, Courtney Whigham, Brad Lindsey, Marisa Konig-Beatty, Douglas Beatty Jr, Steve Bingham Jr, Will Bingham and Kate Norris), 10 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. What a legacy to have after 93 years of life!
Family and friends are cordially invited to a celebration of her life at 10 a.m. followed by a short reception on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. She will be at rest at her family cemetery (Pool’s Cemetery) in Richards, TX.
