Anita Jane Hughes

Anita was born on June 16, 1946, in Bartlesville, OK, to Betty and George F. Downs, Jr. She attended college at Oklahoma State University and the University of Houston, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1972. On April 2, 1977, she married the love of her life, Robert Sherridan Hughes. They raised one son, Rob. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church for 35 years.

Anita was always an artist and designer at heart. She worked in commercial interior design for 15 years, and also had an impressive talent for pen-and-ink drawings. Due to medical problems, she retired from full-time work in 1984, but devoted herself fully to raising, teaching, and caring for her son, Rob.

Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Sherridan, and her brother, George F. Downs, III. She is survived by her sister, Nancy Hoover, her son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Kristy Hughes, and their children, Evan and Katelyn.

The Hughes family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Methodist West Hospital, Methodist Continuing Care Hospital, and A*Med Hospice who cared for her during her last days.
