June 10, 1944 – June 24, 2026
Beatriz Marina Rosa, lovingly known as Mari, passed away on June 24, 2026, at the age of 82. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend whose life was defined by faith, courage, selflessness, and unconditional love.
As a teenager, Mari dreamed of becoming a nun. That calling remained close to her heart until she realized that she hoped to have children one day. Motherhood would ultimately become the great purpose of her life.
In her twenties, Mari courageously left Colombia on her own and moved to New York to begin a new life. She took on difficult jobs, including work in sewing factories, and faced each challenge with remarkable fortitude. Through her determination, she paved the way for her siblings to follow her to New York and pursue new opportunities of their own.
Mari married Adolfo Rosa and was expecting her first child, Estrella, when she decided that raising her children far from her parents was not the life she wanted for her family. She returned to Bogotá, where Estrella was born in 1973, followed by her son, Cesar, in 1974.
Soon afterward, Mari became a single mother. From that point forward, every decision she made was guided by one purpose: creating a better life for her children.
In 1980, Mari made another life-changing decision and moved with her children to Houston. Her sister, Tere, sponsored her visa, making it possible for Mari to return to the United States and begin again with Estrella and Cesar. Mari worked tirelessly during the day, took a second job at night, and often worked weekends. She rarely complained and never sought recognition. Her longtime dream was simply to own a home where her children could feel safe, secure, and loved.
Through her example, Mari taught her children the meaning of hard work, integrity, and selflessness. She met hardship with quiet strength and chose to see the bright side, even during difficult times. She did not speak badly of others and treated people with kindness, patience, and grace.
Mari also devoted herself to caring for both of her aging parents while continuing to work. Day after day, she gave them all the time and care she could, remaining by their side until the end of their lives. The responsibility was not easy, but she carried it faithfully and lovingly. Her family will always admire the strength and devotion she showed them.
Throughout her life, Mari shared an especially close relationship with her sister, Tere. They were devoted companions who remained united through the years, continually comforting and looking out for one another. Mari also shared a meaningful connection with her brother, Alberto, that began early in their lives. Although Alberto lived in Canada and many miles separated them, the affection formed during their childhood remained an important part of their relationship.
Mari was also very close to her nieces, Monica and Linda, Tere’s daughters. For a time, they shared a home with Mari, Estrella, and Cesar, and those years created lasting ties built on shared experiences, affection, and a deep sense of family.
After retiring in 2003, Mari eventually made her home with Estrella, where she remained active, independent, and deeply engaged in family life. The home they shared was filled with warmth, purpose, and companionship.
Mari cherished each of her grandchildren. Because she shared a home and everyday life with Estrella’s children, Tristan, Bryce, and Yazee, they developed an especially close and unique relationship filled with tenderness, trust, and deep affection. Although she did not live with Cesar’s sons, Sebastian and Arturo, she was always present in their lives. She treasured their vacations and special times together, took great joy in watching them grow, and made certain they always knew how much their grandmother loved them.
Mari was pure love. She placed the needs of others before her own and always wanted what was best for those around her. She was deeply loved by her daughter-in-law, Astrid, whom she embraced as a daughter; by Alex, the son of her childhood best friend, Mari Jaramillo, whom she welcomed as one of her own; and by her siblings, nieces, grandchildren, and extended family.
Mari had a deep affection for plants, animals, and the natural world. Plants seemed to respond uniquely to her care and always thrived beneath her touch. There was something almost angelic in the way she nurtured living things. Just as she did with her family, she made everything entrusted to her care stronger, warmer, and more beautiful.
Mari’s life was not measured by the hardships she endured, but by the grace and love with which she met them. Her legacy lives on in the children for whom she sacrificed everything, the grandchildren she cherished, the family she cared for, and the countless lives made better by her kindness.
Estrella and Cesar loved their mother beyond what words can express. The sorrow they feel at losing such a beautiful soul is immeasurable. They will forever be grateful for her sacrifices, her guidance, her gentle spirit, and all that she gave them throughout their lives. She was the heart of their family, and they will carry her with them always.
She will be loved and missed eternally.
