Betty Ruth Butler was called to her eternal home in Heaven on March 11, 2016. Betty was married to Wilson Truett Butler for over 65 years. She and Truett were pillars of support to all who knew them. They were beautiful gifts from God. Betty was born on April 22,1928 in Harlingen, Texas to Clyde and Olivia Glass. Growing up she attended Sweetwater High School and was a member of the National Honor Society, graduating in 1945. After finishing high school she worked for the telephone company in Sweetwater. She and Truett began their journey in Loraine, Texas living on the farm affectionally known as "the old home place." After farming during the devastating drought of the 1950's, Truett began a 32-year career with Marathon Oil Company. They moved to Midland, Texas where they lived for over 15 years. During the 1960's Betty worked for Superior Oil Company in Midland. In 1969 they transferred to Houston. Betty loved gardening and growing outstanding orchids. She was a former member of the Glenshire Garden Club in Houston called the "Busy Bees." She was indeed a busy bee until her last day. She nurtured and cultivated her family as she did her garden, with loving care. She was very proud of all of her grandchildren who called her mama. The love she gave them was unconditional. She had two great-granddaughters and loved them dearly. Betty was a gentle, soft spoken lady, full of grace. We celebrate that she has joined her husband Truett, sister Joyce and a multitude of family and friends in Heaven. She was grateful for the blessings of a wonderful life, and was surrounded by loving neighbors, family and friends. Betty is preceded in death by her husband Wilson Truett Butler; survived by her daughter, Judy Figoski and husband Al, son Donald Butler and wife Sheryll; granddaughters; Amy Pawlik and husband Dan, and Alison Figoski of Austin; her grandsons: Kris, Keith, and Kevin and wife Brittney of Houston; great-granddaughters: Ava Pawlik and Leena Butler.
