Bob was born in Hong Kong on June 18, 1951 to the late Sio In Liu and Pek S. Wong Liu. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Ho Liu and Alex Liu, and sister Suk Fan Liu. He leaves behind his wife, Faye, and his daughters Erin Warren (John) and Kristin Liu (Nathan Lopez). He is also survived by his siblings Linong Liau, James Liu (Rosa), Kelly Liu, Annie Suwanvanichkij (Montri), Michael Liu, and Victor Liu (Garuna). With such a large family, Bob also left behind many nieces and nephews.
Bob attended Pui Ching School while in Hong Kong, where he made dozens of lifelong friends that he stayed in contact with to this day. He immigrated to Berkeley, California when he was 16 years old, and attended Berkeley High School. After high school, Bob enrolled at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he graduated with a degree in architecture. He knew he wanted to pursue additional schooling, so he began his postgraduate journey at the University of Oregon, graduating with a degree in Structural/Architectural Engineering. After graduating, Bob got a job at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, an architectural engineering firm in Chicago, Illinois. He was one of their structural engineers and worked in Chicago for 6 months before relocating to Houston when a new SOM office began operations. He remained at SOM Houston for almost a decade. He would go on to work for several other architectural engineering companies over the years. He officially retired in 2016, although he continued to work and conduct commercial windstorm inspections to fund his many travels.
He met Faye, in 1978 after he'd moved to Houston, at a Chinese Student Association event at the University of Houston, where Faye was going to school. They married in November 1980, later having two daughters, Erin and Kristin. Bob was introduced to his first cruise in the early 1990s; he fell in love with cruising, and was able to go on his last cruise in October 2023. He instilled his love of traveling to his family, spanning well over 40 countries. He'd visited every continent except Antarctica, but not for lack of trying! Besides traveling and eating, Bob loved volunteering, always there to give a smile and provide that southern hospitality to every person he came in contact with. He had volunteered with the Houston Marathon for more than 25 years, and the Houston Sports Authority for 5+ years.
