Chief Petty Officer Carlos Manuel Yuman, 61, passed away peacefully in his Katy, Texas home on November 30, 2019. A veteran of Desert Shield/Desert Storm, he commanded a crew of over 500 as Fire Marshal aboard the USS Constellation CV 64 and was awarded a Navy Unit Commendation Medal and a Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal for his meritorious wartime service.

Chief (SW/AW) Yuman was born on June 14, 1958 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Martha Ibarra and Ramon Catalan. In 1976, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was assigned to Recruit Training Command NTC Orlando, Florida. After graduating boot camp, he was assigned to serve aboard the USS Claude V Ricketts DDG 5 and completed his first EASTPAC deployment to Europe. While deployed overseas, he was frocked and meritoriously promoted to Third Class Petty Officer for his exemplary seatime service. In 1990, Chief Yuman was pinned Chief Petty Officer and was ranked 4th out of 250 Chiefs in the Naval Fleet. He was an avid lover of learning and higher education and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1992. After 22 years of honorable service, Chief Yuman was discharged in 1998. As a civilian he served as a Quality Inspector for a government services contractor and later, a Food & Beverage Chairman for a catering organization until his full retirement in 2002.

While Chief Yuman was a sharp and dedicated sailor, he was an extremely generous and loving husband and father. He married his beloved “Muñeca” Miriam Aracely Pineda in Norfolk, Virginia in 1979. Together they raised two children: Lennin David and Linda Crystal. Chief Yuman treasured his children but he especially loved his role as Grandpa.

Chief Yuman is survived by Miriam Yuman (wife), Lennin Yuman (son), Linda Mireles (daughter), Alysia Yuman (granddaughter), Eian Yuman (grandson), Jensen Mireles (grandson), Jason Yuman (grandson), Patricia Mireles (granddaughter), Jocelyn Rivera (granddaughter) and Roberto Rivera (grandson).
