Charlene Plymale Balogh entered into the eternal presence of her LORD and Savior on Thursday, June 21, 2018 in Katy, Texas. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
Charlene was born on a farm in Shoals, West Virginia on September 11, 1930. Her character and grit were forged early on by the struggles of rural life growing up during the Great Depression. After graduating from Wayne High School she escaped the farm life for the big city of Huntington and attended business college where she met, fell in love, and married the love of her life. She followed her husband to El Paso where he was stationed at Fort Bliss and started a family. They moved several times before settling in the Houston area where she lived for the remainder of her life. In her early thirties she found herself in a new role as a working single mom to four kids, sacrificing to provide for her family. Charlene was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. She was truly a steel magnolia.
Charlene is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, brother, and second granddaughter, Heather Michelle Volney. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela and Dwight Gardner; her daughter, Mindy and Karl Volney; her daughter, Jennifer and Gary Kirby; and her son, Robert Balogh. She leaves a living legacy of 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family is deeply grateful for the caregivers of Sundance at Wood Creek Memory Care Assisted Living Center where she lived out her last two years and received tender care, love, and dignity. A special thank you to Director of Education, Kayce Vanderplas, Executive Director, Chris Jones, Shamia Adams, Taylor Wing, Lucia Vieira, Alyx MCluskie, and Laelle Appleton. The family is thankful to Heart to Heart Hospice for providing excellent end-of-life care and compassionate support for the family.
Family would like to receive flowers or in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to WoundedWarriorsProject.org, an organization that was dear to Charlene’s heart.
