

She was born in Cooledge Texas on May 16, 1926 to Virgil and Leah Gibson. Later, they moved to Houston, where she attended, and graduated from San Jacinto High School. She then went on to St Joseph’s School of Nursing, where she received her diploma in nursing on November 3, 1947. She was a nurse at Saint Joseph’s Hospital for many years. She loved being a nurse, and worked until she retired. She was affectionately called “Gibby” by her lifelong friends she went to Nursing School with.
On January 11, 1948 she married Don Lamar Holmes at Sacred Heart Co- Cathedral in Houston, TX Together they raised five children.
She was an active member of the Royal Oaks Garden Club since 1993. She also enjoyed going on many bus excursions with her seniors group at St. Catherine’s.
She leaves behind her children: Don Lamar Holmes Jr, his wife Dana, Donna Leah Abbott, and husband Gary, Diane Lynn Goggan, and her husband Hank, Drusilla Lee Kutka, and Denise Lorene Oldham.
She was fondly known as Oma to her 10 Grandchildren, and her 13 Great grandchildren Besides her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren she is survived by a brother, Virgil Lee Gibson, and his wife Jackie, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her dear sister Helen Riddle.
She was a devout Catholic who attended Saint Catherine’s Catholic Church until unable to do so, due to health reasons. During her last days she loved to listen to beautiful songs like Be Not Afraid, On Eagles Wings, Here I am Lord, and many others. She also loved for us to read from the Bible. One of her favorite readings was John 11:21-26
We, her children, would like to give a special thanks to Blue Star hospice staff who took such good care of our mother in her final days.
