Edith Joan (Joby) O’Keefe died peacefully on Saturday, December 15, 2018 surrounded by her family. Joby was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of Claude and Edith Foxworthy. She was the youngest of eight children and is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Gordon, Richard, Gene, Donald and Roy Foxworthy and her sister Martha Westervelt.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Thomas O’Keefe and her children Julie Yost (Bill), Mary Baird (Tom), Kevin O’Keefe (Nancy) and Katie Stanko (Stefan). She leaves behind nine grandchildren: Chris Yost (Naomi), Michael Baird (Rachel), Emily and Josh Baird, Ryan and Christina O’Keefe and Nicholas, Claire and Jack Stanko; two great grandchildren: Ashley and Reece Yost; one sister, Pat Earle and her dear friend Anna Falcone.
Joby and Tom lived in Indianapolis from 1956 – 1959 and White Plains, NY from 1960-1970. They lived in Houston from 1970 to the present except for five years in South Padre Island at the family beach house. Joby and Tom traveled extensively after retirement including 40 cruises. Joby was a woman of many talents, including bowling, gardening, singing in the choir and multitudes of volunteer jobs over the years, such as PTA, church work and reading for the blind. Her best known hobby was crocheting. She crocheted small blankets for chemo patients and anyone needing comfort. She loved all animals, especially dogs that needed a home. Her biggest and best job was being a stellar wife, mother and grandmother.
In the last few years Joby was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) and was recently a resident of Autumn Leaves of Cinco Ranch. The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff that cared for her.
