Eric Brandon McKay, of Hockley, TX, passed away suddenly and unexpectantly on January 14, 2024 at the age of 43. Eric was born in Charlotte, NC on April 15, 1980 to Ronnie & Shirley (Baucom) McKay. He was the brother of Shelley McKay Keener, brother-in-law of Tim Keener and uncle of their daughter, Laura.
At a very young age Eric became involved in sports playing basketball, soccer, football and baseball which was his first love and the sport that he excelled in. He couldn’t help but be a NASCAR fan living in close proximity of the Charlotte Motor Speedway. He was active in Youth Club at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church. He was a 1998 graduate of North Mecklenburg High School, Huntersville, NC.
After high school, Eric followed in his Dad’s footsteps working at Cardinal Healthcare in Charlotte. While there he went through Lean Six Sigma training and became a Black Belt. He transferred to Houston in 2014 to be close to his sister and parents and his last position with them was Director, Operational Excellence, Deployment Leader. He was employed by Cardinal Healthcare his entire 22-year career.
Eric had an infectious smile (referred to as Smiley in his younger years) and never met a stranger. He was funny, witty and his one liners could not be matched. He had quite the stories to tell of experiences he had as he traveled around the country and abroad.
He was a giving soul and it wasn’t surprising that he chose to give life to others by being an organ donor. Our prayers will always be with those who benefited from his generous gift of life.
We would like to thank employees and staff at Harris County EMS, Memorial Hermann Cypress ICU, Memorial Hermann Life Flight, Memorial Hermann Medical Center Downtown ICU and LifeGift Organ Donation Center for their loving care and compassion.
Eric was preceded in death by his grandparents Ross & Louise McKay and Hugh & Frances Baucom; uncles Bobby Baucom and Eddie Baucom; aunt Judy Baucom Webb.
In addition to his immediate family, he is also survived by his uncle David McKay (Betty); aunts Denise Motes and Sue Baucom Oehler (Craven) and numerous cousins.
Our family is honoring Eric’s wishes and there will be no visitation or funeral service.
Memorials in Eric’s memory may be made to LifeGift, 2510 Westridge, Houston, TX 77054 or Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association, 66 Ford Road, Suite 213B, Denville, NJ 07834.
Nothing that is loved is ever lost
