Gary Lee Childress

Gary Lee Childress, 60, was born in Houston, Texas, to Lillian Marie Risse & Elijah Cloice Childress on September 23, 1955. He graduated from Lamar High School in 1974 and The University of Texas at Austin in 1980 with a degree in Petroleum Land Management. In July 1981 he married Lisa Ann Stohr. Together they built a wonderful life working and living in Houston, New Orleans and Perth, Australia. Gary lived an adventurous life camping, sailing, dove hunting, and playing golf with friends and family. They were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Kristin Marie in April 1991. Gary worked for Amoco for 18 years before going out on his own as a Petroleum Landman Consultant. Unfortunately, Gary was diagnosed with cancer in January 2016 and after a courageous battle he succumbed to this horrific disease on Thursday, August 18, 2016. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lillian & Cloice and his brother-in-law, Gary Baroski. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa, cherished daughter, Kristin, brother Randy Childress, his wife, Nancy and their children Lyndsay Mitchell (husband Ian, daughter Charlotte), Chase Childress, Suzanne Childress (fiancé Vincent Mocny); sister-in-law, Jennifer Baroski her daughter, Beth Baroski Jez (husband Sean, sons Zachary and Zander).

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at the Childress home after the Chapel Service.

A private interment will be held at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in Gary’s name to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center or Boy Scouts of America, Sam Houston Area Council.
