Gerald Ray “Jerry” McCurry, Sr.
August 14, 1935 – May 21, 2025
Gerald Ray McCurry, Sr., affectionately known as Jerry, passed away on May 21, 2025, at the age of 89.
Born in Oklahoma City on August 14, 1935—the day Social Security became law, as he proudly liked to share—Jerry lived a life defined by love, service, and family.
Jerry graduated from Classen High School and studied drafting at Oklahoma City College.
He proudly served in the Oklahoma National Guard, completing peace-time missions abroad. This experience sparked a lifelong love of military history.
He began his career as a draftsman with the Oklahoma Highway Department before moving to Houston, Texas, where he could work in the “oilfield” as a pipeline draftsman for companies such as Alyeska Pipeline, Bechtel, and Gulf Interstate Engineering.
Jerry was a proud father to his children and an active member of his church communities.
He sang in the choir at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Houston and the McCurry Clan later became one of the founding families of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Cypress.
A passionate classic car enthusiast, Jerry especially cherished his first ’57 Ford Fairlane retractable hardtop convertible that he purchased right after college. He later became a collector of ’57 Ford convertibles and spent hours on various classic car restorations.
Jerry later married Dorothy “Dot” McCurry and lovingly helped raise her three sons. Jerry and Dorothy were members of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, where he continued his love of music by singing in the choir.
He was a source of inspiration to his children and grandchildren, many of whom followed in his footsteps into careers in drafting, engineering, and artistic design.
