Doug was born on November 8, 1953 and was recognized as an outstanding excellent musician from a very early age. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and at the At age of 16 he made the decision to give his life to the ministry of worship and music. After graduating from Truman High School in Independence, MO he attended Evangel University in Springfield, MO. Upon graduation in 1977, Doug would devote the rest of his life to full-time ministry.
Over the years he would lead thousands in worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ with his beautiful tenor voice, and unmatched piano ability. Whether seated at the piano leading others in worship, or behind a stand leading a choir, Doug ministered with a joy and sincerity that reflected the depth of his relationship with God. His legacy lives on in every life he touched, every worship song he led, and every moment he shared with those he loved.
Doug loved his family very much. He found great joy in supporting and cheering each one on in every endeavor. His children and grandchildren were the joy of his life!
Doug also loved cars, as evidenced in his large die-cast car collection. At four years old he wanted to own a car salvage yard. So, when the opportunity was presented at age 60, to work at the Cox Auto-Auction, he could not pass it by. He found great pleasure in driving luxury, expensive, sporty, or even antique cars during the auctions. Doug thoroughly enjoyed that season of ministry outside the walls of a church.
Doug is survived by his wife of 47 years, Laury Hunter, his son Joel (Katie) Hunter, his daughter Kristen (Josh) Cullen, his grandchildren: Cameron Hunter, Caleb (Rheanne) Hunter, Jenna Hunter, Riann Cullen, Kinley Cullen, Parker Cullen, Jackson Hunter, and Frankie Hunter. His sister Dee Dee (Mark) Brewer, Step-parents, Wanda Hunter and Mike Kilkenny, sisters-in-law, Linda (Garry) Mastey, Karen (Tom) Slawik, brother-in-law Jeff (Kelly) Lister and many dear nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceded in death by his mother, Marcia Kilkenny, and his father, Glenn Hunter.
