Gregory Gerald Burkett

Gregory Gerald Burkett, 63, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 4, 2023 following a courageous fight with ALS. Greg was born in Jackson, MS on February 27th, 1960 to Gerald and Betty Burkett, the oldest of two siblings. He grew up in Houston where Greg met the love of his life, Janet Winters. Greg graduated from Lee High School and enrolled at the University of Texas where he earned a degree in Petroleum Land Management. In 1983, Janet and Greg married and eventually welcomed two boys, Gregory Brett and James Blake Burkett.

After graduating from Texas, Greg began his career in the mortgage industry. Greg’s profession moved his family to Baton Rouge, LA before returning to his hometown of Houston, TX. He was an active member in the Houston Mortgage Bankers Association and was passionately involved in his career to his last days.

Greg will be remembered for his generous nature and was actively involved at Kingsland Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for numerous years. Greg enjoyed coaching his two boys and all their friends. An avid outdoorsman all his life, Greg was happiest when golfing, hunting or fishing with his family and friends. Brett and Blake have fond memories of growing up on the lake with their dad. Most recently, he was most at peace taking his bass boat out to fish and enjoyed being on the water.

Greg is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Janet; son Brett Burkett of Houston, TX and son, Blake and Erin Burkett of Oklahoma City, OK; his beloved mother and late father, Betty and Gerald Burkett of Houston; and brother Tim and Danna Burkett of Houston. He was affectionately known as “Gpa” to his three grandsons Davis, Thomas and Beau Burkett. Greg was incredibly involved in the lives of all his nieces and nephews.

The family requests that donations be made in honor of Greg to The Ballard House of Katy and would like to express their deep appreciation for the love and support shown to them over the last year.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 11:00 am at Kingsland Baptist Church located at 20555 Kingsland Blvd Katy, Texas 77450.
