Hub graduated from UH with a Bachelor’s Degree in Television Production. Soon after graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. After basic training, he was sent to New York City and was stationed at the Army Pictorial Center where training films were made. While stationed in New York, Hub met Jennye Dell Beck in the neighboring town of Jackson Heights. As it turned out, both were 4th generation Texans and they hit it off immediately. They were married the following year in the Manhattan City Hall.
After his military service, Hub and Jennye lived in several Texas cities including: League City, Corpus Christi, and San Angelo. The family eventually settled in Katy, 44 years ago. In his varied careers, he held several jobs. His titles include: Repo Man, Credit Manager, Freight Forwarder and Operations Manager. Nothing, however, was more important than his role as husband and father.
Hub had many interests including fishing, camping and exploring the hidden gems of nature in his home state of Texas. However, his greatest passion was gardening. He grew tomatoes the size of softballs, exotic plants that should not survive in the Texas climate, and became a self-taught Bonsai tree master.
Hub and Jennye are longtime members of New Hope Presbyterian Church. He loved spending time with the members of his church family, and could often be found mowing the grounds in the scorching humid summer heat.
Hub’s parents Mary and Herbert Edward Giles, Sr. preceded him in death. Hub was an only child and leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Jennye; older son, Blake and wife, Sandra, daughter, Jill, younger son, Wade and wife, Lilibeth, and his only grandchild, Casey.
