Hubert Harold Buck, age 90, became ill suddenly on Saturday, April 26, 2014, and died peacefully, surrounded by family, Sunday, April 27, 2014. Harold was born in Jones, Louisiana, on Thanksgiving Day, November 29, 1923. Louisiana was home until he joined the US Navy, Aviation Branch, in 1943. Harold served his country proudly and on April 19, 1946, he was honorably discharged. After returning home to visit family, Harold moved to Texas to find work. On June 26, 1946, a company in Texas City, Texas-Pan American Oil Company, which later became American Oil Company and now, BP Corporation, hired him. He discovered he had a propensity for the oil business and remained a loyal employee of BP until his retirement, in 1985. Soon after moving to Texas, Harold met and married the love of his life, Jerrie Hans, a lifetime resident of League City, Texas. Harold and Jerrie built a life together in League City; raised a family and loved each other until Jerrie passed away, September 4, 2009. Harold moved to Katy, Texas, in March of 2010, to be near his family. Harold was a man of old fashioned values, patience and gentle strength. Children and animals always held a special place in his heart. He was an avid reader of nonfiction, but also loved western paperbacks and movies. In his later years, he found joy in listening and singing songs from his younger days with his friends. Harold's famly and friends will miss his kind heart, blue eyes and beautiful smile. Mr. Buck's family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and residents of Sundance at Woodcreek Reserve for their loving care and the happiness they shared with Harold. Memorials in Harold's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or MDS Foundation.
