Joe Fred McKinzie

Joe Fred McKinzie, 77, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. He was born in Abilene, TX on August 27, 1939. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1957. He then attended Abilene Christian University before transferring to the University of Houston where he got his BS in Pharmacy in 1966.

Joe was passionate about numerous things including the Cougars, college football, love for the great State of Texas, and his family. He was especially proud to be “Poppy” to his two grandchildren, Alyssa and Collin McKinzie. He loved spending time with them and was a constant source of support and love.

Joe is survived by his son; Jay McKinzie and wife Christy; his daughters, Jill McKinzie and Joanna McKinzie; his grandchildren, Alyssa McKinzie and Collin McKinzie; his sisters Linda McGlathery and husband Derrel; Nancy Sartain and husband Bill; plus, numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Joan McKinzie; and his parents Fred and Evelyn McKinzie.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Joe at 2:30pm on May 6, 2017 at Candlelight Church of Christ, 4215 Watonga Blvd, Houston, TX 77092. Derrel McGlathery officiating. The family invites you to a reception at the church to follow the service. Dress in colors is preferred. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you donate to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Foundation in Joe’s name.
