

John was born July 16, 1933, in El Dorado, Arkansas, where he grew up and married his childhood sweetheart, Alta Darlene Brown, on October 6, 1952. Bob and Darlene moved several times in their 68 years of marriage while he served in the United States Air Force flying on the B-36 Peacemaker reconnaissance missions. After his Air Force service, John received his Geological Engineering degree from Louisiana Tech and then studied for his master’s at Texas A&M. He first worked as a Research Associate and later Manager for Tulsa Pan American Oil. He later joined Superior Oil (bought by Mobil Oil) as Computer Programmer / Manager of Seismic Programming in Houston. After retirement he became an avid golfer and enjoyed playing even in the most recent years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather who also enjoyed baseball and football.
John is preceded in death by his parents, John Wallace Brown and Nellie Graves Brown, daughter Kathey Wright, son-in-law Robert (Bob) Wright and is survived by his daughters Marilyn Wilson of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Susan Ottis (Harold) of Sugar Land, Texas as well as five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The Brown family would like to give special thanks to Mimi Pascual, John’s caregiver, who took great care of him over the last 5 years.
An interment service at Houston National Cemetery will be held on Friday, September 4th 2026 at 10:30AM.
