Jonnie Canfield

Jonnie Towery Canfield passed from this world and into the presence of Jesus Christ our Lord October 20, 2025, in Katy Texas. Jonnie was born November 20, 1933, to O’Neil and Ora Towery in Seguin, Texas and grew up in Luling and Seguin.

Jonnie graduated from Seguin High School, class of 1952. She married Marlyn (Lynn) Earl Canfield June 2, 1952. February 1959 Jonnie attended and graduated from All Texas Beauty Show in San Antonio.

During her husband’s military career and several moves, Jonnie worked as a beautician, a church secretary, and as a carpet/inspection control line worker in Georgia. In Houston she worked for an insurance company and moved up to insurance claims, which she loved. In Tyler Jonnie used her skills and love of cooking by working for Meals-On-Wheels as cook and sight manager.

Jonnie had many interests and hobbies including gardening, crocheting, sewing, and cooking. She was best known for her generous spirit, and crocheted Afghans. She loved reading, traveling, and collecting. In her retirement years, she loved reading her Bible and watching sermons on tv.

Jonnie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a Christian woman, who was faithful to her Savior. She faithfully attended and was involved in her local church, taught adult women’s Sunday School class, and loved studying the Word.

As a high schooler, she was a cheerleader, which she always remembered fondly. She encouraged many people during her lifetime.

Jonnie was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Lynn in 2015, her parents O’Neil and Ora Wise Towery and four brothers and three sisters.

Jonnie is survived by two daughters (and their husbands): Valerie Posey (Frank) and Bonnie Treat (Leonard); eight grandchildren (and spouses): Ora Posey Linville (Michael), Jonathan Constantine (Wendy), Matthew Posey (Julie), Sarah Posey Alexander (Courtney), David Kitchens (Alisha), Stephen Posey (Carli), Martha Posey Agee (Ben), and Johanna Posey Bates (Thomas).

nine great grandchildren: Micah Linville, Verity Linville, Silas Posey, Riley Posey, Tucker Kitchens, Miles Alexander, Mason Posey, Nolan Posey, and Loreli Alexander

A time to honor the life of Jonnie Canfield will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at The Katy Funeral Home located at 23350 Kingsland Blvd, Katy, TX 77494. Visitation from 4-5pm, followed by a memorial service at 5pm.
