She grew up in Ellsworth, Michigan, and attended Ellsworth Community School. Judy later graduated from Central Michigan University, where she earned a business degree and met her husband, Elton Wilkerson. They shared 40 years of marriage and a life defined by curiosity and a shared love of travel and exploration.
Judy lived life with remarkable energy and joy. She was always smiling, always willing to try something new, and never said no to an adventure. She loved being on and in the water, especially scuba diving, sailing, and boating. Travel was one of her greatest joys, particularly when it involved the ocean or time spent exploring new places with Elton.
In 1979, Judy and Elton moved to Texas, where she earned her real estate license and worked in the profession for many years. They lived in Missouri City before later settling in Sugar Land, Texas. Wherever she lived, Judy brought warmth, generosity, and an open heart to those around her.
Judy was always there to help anyone who needed it. Her kindness was effortless and sincere, and she made people feel welcomed, supported, and cared for without ever asking for anything in return.
Judy is survived by her children, Shelly Mathews, Robert Mathews, Jennifer Wilkerson Lilly, and Katherine Wilkerson Malin. She is also survived by her brother, Darwin Brooks and his wife Bonnie, her sister, Brenda Brooks and her husband Terry, as well as many nieces and nephews. Judy was a proud grandmother to three grandchildren and a great grandmother to four.
She will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her boundless energy, her generosity, and her constant smile. Judy’s love of life and love for others left a lasting imprint on everyone who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.
