

Karen L. Stewart, 84, of Brookshire, Texas and former resident of Portage Indiana, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025. She was born in Hammond, Indiana, and throughout her life was devoted to her family and those she loved.
Karen was the beloved wife of Jerry Stewart, and together they shared 64 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and devotion. Throughout their many years together, Karen and Jerry made countless cherished memories while traveling across the United States, enjoying the beauty of the country and one another’s company.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Stewart and is survived by her four daughters: Deanna Gage of Brookshire, Texas; Pam Kliza (Edward) of Portage, Indiana; Linda Cavanaugh (Scott) of Surprise, Arizona; and Sue Stewart of Elkhart, Indiana.
Karen was the proud grandmother of Joshua McLucas (Danielle) of Katy, Texas; Jimmy Kovesci (Kayla) of Indianapolis, Indiana; Christopher Cavanaugh (Kelsie) of Mesa, Arizona; Tyler Cavanaugh (Janette) of Surprise, Arizona; Karen McLucas of Houston, Texas; Richard McLucas (Destiny) of Noble, Oklahoma; Timothy Kliza of Portage, Indiana; Joseph Kliza (Aisha) of Irving, Texas; and Rachel Starkweather of Elkhart, Indiana.
She was also a proud great-grandmother to Jonathan McLucas, Mitchell McLucas, and Jeremy McLucas of Katy, Texas; Gionna Starkweather of Elkhart, Indiana; Lyla Cavanaugh of Surprise, Arizona, Ebin Adair of Mesa, Arizona; and Eliana Kliza of Irving, Texas.
For 20 years, Karen worked as a waitress at The Town Club in Highland, Indiana, where she was known for her friendly smile, dedication, and the lasting relationships she built with both coworkers and customers.
Karen was an avid Indianapolis Colts fan and loved cheering for her team every season. In her spare time, she enjoyed being outdoors and took great pride in tending to her garden, finding joy and peace among her flowers and plants.
Karen will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose kindness, warmth, and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.
