Kenneth Allen Griffin, 82 of Katy, Texas, went to his heavenly home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2025. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday July 10th at 2:00 pm at Second Baptist West Campus at the Williams House, 19449 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77094. There will be a reception immediately following at the Williams House.
Kenneth was born on August 5, 1942, to Walter Ethridge Dick Griffin and Athen Alene Miller Griffin, in Abilene, Texas. As a child, Kenneth was the son of a US Army Lieutenant Colonel and Chaplain who served in three wars. Raised in a military family, he grew up as an Army brat, moving with his family to various posts in the U.S. and Germany.
He graduated from Stuttgart American High School in West Germany in 1961. Upon returning to the United States, he attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. After moving to Houston, Kenneth attended the University of Houston to pursue a bachelor’s degree in history.
In his younger years, he enjoyed touring Europe, playing the guitar, camping, hiking and exploring. He was also a member of the National Speleological Society. Kenneth and his friends from TRW Subsea along with their strong sense of exploration and adventure, bravely crawled into many caves in Texas and in Mexico.
Kenneth worked at NASA during the exciting Apollo program of the late 1960s. He led an interesting and adventurous life. He got to see the world while working in the oil and gas industry as an advertising and public relations executive. He also had an incredible love of history, reading and music.
In the late 1970’s, Kenneth founded a successful public relations firm, Griffin and Associates, the company continues today under his son. In 2018, Kenneth became a Deacon at Second Baptist – Woodway Campus. He was also the Director of the Endeavor Sunday School Class. He always yearned to go back and live in the Davis Mountains of West Texas, so that will be his ashes final resting place.
He will be remembered for his humor, his kindness, his unwavering faith, and the solid foundation he created for his family. Along with the lessons and wisdom he passed on to them, he was a good man, a source of strength, a loving father and an incredibly kind soul. He will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lynda Lindinger Griffin also affectionately known as Honey.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his siblings Richard Carroll Griffin, Sharla Jean Griffin and Janis Kaye West.
He is survived by his former wife Mary Blackmon Griffin, with whom he shared many years of marriage and raised their two children; Rosalind Lea Griffin of Katy and Travis Miller Griffin, Sr., married to Jennifer Sykes Griffin of Leander.
He is also survived by his Grandchildren – Alena Claire Griffin of Katy, Travis Miller Griffin Jr., Madison Rebecca Griffin, McKenzie Kay Griffin of Leander.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in memory of Kenneth Griffin that reflect his unwavering commitment to faith, freedom and the founding principles of our nation, as well as finding a cure for Parkinson’s Disease and protecting our National Parks.
