

Luis Gerardo Chirichigno “Jerry”, 83, of Piura, Peru, passed away Wednesday February 3, 2021 after a battle with acute leukemia. Jerry is survived by a loving wife Maria and two children: Gerardo and Maritza and he also leaves behind a grandchild, Sebastian.
Jerry is a veteran of the Vietnam War and retired as a Captain of the U.S. Army. He served with distinction, earning several medals and accolades including The Distinguished Service Cross, 3 Purple Stars, Silver Star, Bronze Star and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He was also nominated for the Congressional Medal of Honor. Jerry rose through the enlisted ranks quickly and along the way earned his Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Jump Wings, Pathfinder, Ranger Tab and Green Beret. As an Officer, Jerry added pilot to his resume and flew the Huey and Cobra Attack Gunship.
A natural athlete with a competitive spirit Jerry attended the University of Alabama on full athletic scholarship and competed at the NCAA level in both swimming and football. He earned two National Championship rings playing football with coach “Bear” Bryant. Roll Tide Roll.
After retiring from the Army Jerry continued dutifully serving this nation with the U.S. State Department for 25+ years. Jerry served in numerous locations throughout the world with family in tow to include Nigeria, Turkey, Venezuela and several more.
An avid tennis player, you could always find Jerry out on the courts ready to practice or play a match. He always traveled with a tennis racquet just in case he could get out on the court wherever he was. Otherwise you would find him at home spending time with family and friends and falling asleep in front of the television.
Jerry was an honorable husband, father and friend and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
