Margaret Roseboom (nee Ferry), a longtime resident of Del City and Oklahoma City, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2024 at the age of 93 in Houston, Texas where she had recently moved to be close to family.
Margaret was born on January 30, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois to James Lee Ferry and Rosalie Challacombe. After Rosalie died in 1934 her father remarried Elizabeth Dudley who was a great comfort to Margaret. Margaret was married to Gene Roseboom for 49 years before his passing in 2004.
Margaret passionately served many years at the First Unitarian Church in Oklahoma City where she contributed in many capacities including serving as president, organizing adult education classes, singing in the choir, and leading Tai Chi sessions when the teacher was not available. She was proud to be recognized with the Clara Barton Sisterhood Award which is bestowed on women over the age of 80 for their contributions to their congregations and communities.
Margaret attended Milwaukee-Downer College where she received a degree in Occupational Therapy. She was one of a handful of Occupational Therapists in Oklahoma when she moved to the state in the 1950’s. As a professor of Occupational Therapy at Oklahoma City Community College and president of the Oklahoma Occupational Therapy Association she provided instruction and guidance to many students who continue to serve the community.
Margaret is survived by her sons, Ken (and wife, Gwendolyn) of Houston, Texas, and Ed (and wife, Donna Weber) of Fairfax, California; grandchildren, David of Austin, Texas, and Rebecca Jones (and husband, McGregor) of Katy, Texas along with great-grandchildren, Scarlett and Clara. She is also survived by her nieces, Jill, Lynn, Susan, Leighanne, and nephew, James. In addition to her husband, Gene, she is also preceded in death by her brother, Jim Ferry.
Margaret wanted to be remembered as someone who cared about the people she knew and wanted them to have what they needed to live a life full of love and satisfaction. She will be missed especially amongst those of us who were privileged to know her.
A remembrance will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the First Unitarian Church in Oklahoma City or becoming a patron at your local theater in memory of the times she enjoyed ushering at the Oklahoma City Civic Center.
