Born to Andrew Dubyak and lIana (nee Gresko) Dubyak on August 22, 1926, in Patton, Pennsylvania, Margaret spent her childhood in Patton before leaving at the age of 15, to work as a cook and housekeeper for a family in New York City. After a few years in New York, she moved to Bridgeport, CT to work in an ammunition plant during World War II. While there, she met and married Matthew Mozi and started her family. After the war, Margaret and her family moved back to Patton, PA for a few years; to Youngstown, OH for a short time; and finally settled in Detroit, Michigan. She lived in Michigan for many years working and raising her family. It was during this time that she also remarried and started a new life with her second husband, Joseph Swick. She was employed at Awrey Bakery in Michigan for 22 years, until her retirement and subsequent move to Houston, TX in 1983. By this time Margaret's daughter and grandsons were living in Houston and she wanted to move there and be a part of her grandson's lives. Upon her arrival in Texas, Margaret opened a day care center in her home. She felt a need in her neighborhood to help the working parents with child care, and it also gave her the opportunity to spend more time with her grandsons. After several years, Margaret closed her day care so she would have time to volunteer at her church, St, Andrews Catholic Church, in Channelview, TX. She worked for many years in the soup kitchen located at her church. Her passion had always been cooking, and the soup kitchen gave her the opportunity to use her cooking skills. She loved cooking for her family and friends making everyone's favorite foods. Her family especially enjoyed the old-world recipes she got from her mother, who emigrated to the United States from the Austria-Hungary region of Eastern Europe. Everything she made was always delicious, made with love, and always kept everyone coming back for more. Margaret was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church for many years before moving in with her daughter and attending a new church in Katy, TX called Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church. As her grandchildren grew up and started families of their own, Margaret stayed attentive and involved with her two grandsons and her five great-grandchildren.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, nine siblings, son, John (“Jack") Mozi, first husband Matthew and second husband Joseph. She leaves behind a daughter, Adele Mozi Dubicki; grandson, Scott Dubicki, wife Jennifer, and their two daughters, Grace and Paige, grandson, Jeremy Dubicki, and wife, Mindy and their three children, Benjamin, Lillian, and Casen. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at Katy Funeral Home located at 23350 Kingsland Blvd., in Katy, Texas on March 17, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. Following her memorial service Margaret will be interred at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Detroit, MI.
