Chief/Sir Mathew Uche Okorocha passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025, at the age of 75. He was born on November 21, 1949, in Umuonyahu, Isi-Orodo Autonomous Community in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria, to Mr. and Mrs. Orodoekwe and Bridget Okorocha. He was one of seven siblings and is survived by his brother Ephraim, brother Moses, sister Victoria, and sister Comfort. He was preceded in death by both of his Parents and his brothers Raymond and Godfrey.
Mathew’s early education began in Orodo and Aba, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. He continued his academic journey at Owerri Grammar School Imerienwe and earned his Senior School Certificate. He later attended the College of Science and Technology in Port Harcourt. After gaining valuable work experience in Kano, he moved to the United States to pursue higher education. Mathew earned a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology from Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. He went on to work as a Medical Technologist at Doctor’s Hospital East Loop and later at UTMB in Galveston, Texas. Eventually, he followed his entrepreneurial spirit and founded KC Medical Equipment and Supplies in Houston, which he owned and operated for over three decades.
Known for his generosity and vibrant spirit, Mathew was a devoted husband to his wife Rose, and a loving father to Kelechi (Kelly), Chinedu (Jason), and Amarachi (Brittney). He was affectionately called Grandpa by his granddaughters Chiamaka (Kaylee) and Chikamara (Kendalyn). He also leaves behind his daughter-in-law and four surviving siblings and many nieces and nephews. Mathew was deeply involved in his faith and community. He was a proud Anglican knight and a titled chief in his hometown. In 2022, he received the Entrepreneurs of the Year award for his steadfast support of local businesses. Through KC Medical, he provided much-needed medical supplies and equipment to both local residents and communities in Nigeria.
Mathew was a man full of life and love. He treasured his family above all else, especially his grandchildren who brought him immeasurable joy. He was a passionate social connector, known for bringing people together and lighting up every room he entered with his laughter and sense of humor. A true Houston sports enthusiast, Mathew cheered on his favorite teams with great pride. His business was more than a profession—it was a ministry through which he touched countless lives and empowered others to find success.
His legacy of kindness, faith, and joy will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
